How do you decide on your perfume? Have you stuck with a signature scent for years? Or do you feel overwhelmed by all the options out there?

Type 1: Bright, Animated Woman

  • Keywords: crisp, fresh, clean or bright, sweet.
  • Perfume examples: Happy by Clinique, Daisy by Marc Jacobs

 

Type 2: Soft, Subtle Woman

  • Keywords: romantic, musky, softer floral
  • Perfume examples: Romance by Ralph Lauren, Eternity by Calvin Klein

 

Type 3: Rich, Dynamic Woman

  • Keywords: rich, spicy, layered, citrus or cinnamon, with a kick
  • Perfume examples: The One by Dolce & Gabbana, Brit by Burberry

 

Type 4: Bold, Striking Woman

  • Keywords: pure, bold, distinct, love or hate
  • Perfume examples: Crystal Noir by Versace, Lola by Marc Jacobs, Chanel No. 5

    My 3 perfumes are Fiji and Lumiere.  Both are darned expensive but wow.. what a wonderful smell.  I pick the one that suits my mood… the Fiji is getting hard to find

    If you’re into perfume, then try reading Perfumes – The A-Z by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez. It’s a great tool for all types because it covers a vast number of perfumes and rates them from one star to 5 stars with detailed reviews. It also describes the type of perfume and its price range. At the back it lists by type, by rating and by perfumer. 5 star listings include Chanel number 5, Givenchy III, Clinique Elixirs,(I wear this as a type 3) Ca Sent Beau, L’Heure Bleue, Tommy Girl, Mitsouko. Daisy gets 3 stars’competent fruity floral’ Eternity gets 3 ‘loud rose’ Romance gets a 2. The One gets 3 stars. Crystal Noir gets a 1 star. The reviews are reasoned and to the point. Well worth investing in.
